Description:
There is no paper in the rear paper tray at the back of the printer.
Resolution:
- Insert paper into the rear tray.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue.

1001 - Orange light blinking 2 times
Description:
No CD/DVD Tray is inserted within the printer.
Resolution:
- Open the paper output tray on the front of the device.
- Place the CD/DVD (with the printable surface facing up) onto the CD/DVD tray
NOTE: Make sure that there is no dirt on the CD/DVD tray - Insert the CD/DVD tray within the inner cover, ensuring the tray is kept level.

1002 Orange light blinking 2 times
Description:
No CD or DVD is present on the CD/DVD tray.
Resolution:
- Open the paper output tray on the front of the device.
- Place the CD/DVD (with the printable surface facing up) onto the CD/DVD tray
NOTE: Make sure that there is no dirt on the CD/DVD tray - Insert the CD/DVD tray within the inner cover, ensuring the tray is kept level.

Description:
No paper in the cassette (paper tray).
Resolution:
- Insert paper into the cassette (paper tray).
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue.

Description:
This error occurred due to one of the following reasons -
- There is no paper in the cassette (upper).
- The paper source is incorrect.
- Paper is not loaded properly.
Resolution:
- Load paper in the cassette (upper).
- Load paper in the paper source suitable for the paper size.
The small size photo paper such as 4" x 6" (10 x 15 cm) or 5" x 7" (13 x 18 cm), or Hagaki can be loaded in the cassette (upper).
NOTE - If you cut plain paper into small size such as 4" x 6" (10 x 15 cm) or 5" x 7" (13 x 18 cm) and try to print on it, a paper jam will occur. - Align the paper guides with both edges of the paper when you load paper.
- Press the [OK] button to dismiss the error.

Description:
This error occurred due to one of the following reasons -
- There is no paper in the cassette (lower).
- The paper source is incorrect.
- Paper is not loaded properly.
Resolution
- Load paper in the cassette (lower).
- Load paper in the paper source suitable for the paper size.
The large size photo paper or plain paper such as A4, B5, A5, 8" x 10" (20 x 25 cm), Letter, or Legal, or envelope can be loaded in the cassette (lower). - Align the paper guides with both edges of the paper when you load paper.
- Press the [OK] button to dismiss the error.

Description
The ink cover is open.
Resolution
- Close the ink cover and wait for a while. Do not close the ink tank cover while you are replacing an ink tank.

Description
The paper output cover is open.
Resolution
- Close the paper output cover.

1203
Description
The cover has been opened while printing is in progress.
Action
- If paper is left inside the machine, remove the paper slowly with both hands and close the cover.
- Press the machine's [Black] or [Colour] button to dismiss the error.
- The machine will eject the blank paper and resume printing from the next piece of paper.
- The machine will not reprint the page that was printing when the cover was opened. Try printing again.
NOTE - Do not open or close the cover while printing is in progress, as this can damage the machine.

1250/E17 - Orange light blinking 3 times
Description:
The front door is closed.
Resolution:
- Open the front door to allow prints to exit.
Note - This error is detected at the start of printing or during printing.

1300/E03 - Orange light blinking 3 times
Description:
A paper jam has occurred during printing.
Resolution:
- Locate and remove the jammed paper from the printer.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1303 - Orange light blinking 3 times
Description:
A paper jam has occurred in the rear tray.
Resolution:
- Remove the jammed paper from the rear tray.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1304 - Orange light blinking 3 times
Description:
A paper jam has occurred in the under tray at the front of the machine.
Resolution:
- Remove the jammed paper from the under tray.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device.

1310/E10 - Orange light blinking 10 times
Description:
Double sided printing cannot be performed (paper size not supported).
Resolution:
- The sizes of paper suitable for double sided printing are A4, Letter, A5 and 5"x7"
- Load correct paper size and press the [Resume/Cancel] button.

Description
The paper loaded in the cassette (upper) is jammed.
Resolution
Remove the jammed paper following the procedure below -
NOTE - The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when the received fax or the unsent faxes are stored in the machine's memory. Make sure the machine completed sending or receiving all faxes before disconnecting the power cord. If you unplug the power cord, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.
- Press the [Stop] button to cancel any print jobs and turn off the machine.
- Detach the rear cover.
- Detach the transport unit cover.
- Pull out the paper slowly.
NOTE - Do not touch the inner parts of the machine. If you cannot pull out the paper, open the paper output tray. - Attach the transport unit cover.
- Attach the rear cover.
If you were not able to remove the paper in step 4 continue below: - Detach the lower and upper cassettes.
- Pull out the paper slowly.
- If the paper is not loaded properly in the cassette, remove the paper and then reload it after aligning the edges of the sheets.
NOTE – When reloading the paper, confirm that you are using the paper suited for printing and are loading it correctly. - Attach the cassettes to the machine, and then press the [OK] button.

Description
The paper loaded in the cassette (lower) is jammed.
Resolution
Remove the jammed paper following the procedure below -
NOTE - The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when the received fax or the unsent faxes are stored in the machine's memory. Make sure the machine completed sending or receiving all faxes before disconnecting the power cord. If you unplug the power cord, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.
- Press the [Stop] button to cancel any print jobs and turn off the machine.

- Pull out the paper slowly.

Description
The paper jammed as the machine pulled in the printed paper.
Resolution
Remove the jammed paper following the procedure below -
NOTE- If the printed paper piles up on the paper output slot, the machine may pull it in and the paper jams inside the machine. Remove the printed paper from the paper output tray before it amounts to 50 sheets.
The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when the received fax or the unsent faxes are stored in the machine's memory. Make sure the machine completed sending or receiving all faxes before disconnecting the power cord. If you unplug the power cord, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.
- Press the [Stop] button to cancel any print jobs and turn off the machine.
- Detach the rear cover.
- Detach the transport unit cover.
- Pull out the paper slowly.
NOTE - Do not touch the inner parts of the machine. If you cannot pull out the paper, open the paper output tray. - Attach the transport unit cover.
- Attach the rear cover.
If you were not able to remove the paper in step 4 continue below: - Detach the lower and upper cassettes.

The ink tank cannot be recognised.
Resolution
- Open the ink cover and replace the ink tank with the un-lit lamp.

Description
The FINE cartridge is not installed in the correct position.
Resolution
- Make sure that each FINE cartridge is installed in the correct position.

1487 - Orange light blinking 7 times
Description:
More than one ink cartridge of the same colour is installed in the printer.
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Locate the duplicate coloured ink cartridge (the colour is indicated on the label on the top of the cartridge).
- Remove and replace with the correct colour cartridge.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1600 - Orange light blinking 4 times
Description:
The ink cartridge has run out.
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Identify the ink cartridge that has run out (the ink cartridge flashes quickly at around 1-second intervals).
- Replace the applicable ink cartridge and close the cover.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1660 - Orange light blinking 4 times
Description:
The ink cartridge has not been installed correctly.
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Check that the red lights on the ink cartridges are all turned on.
- If no red light is activated on a particular cartridge, check that the cartridge is securely positioned and adjust if necessary.
- Also make sure that the orange protective cap has been removed from the bottom of the ink cartridge.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1680 - Orange light blinking 7 times
Description:
The ink cartridge is installed in the wrong position (example – green cartridge installed in yellow slot).
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Check that all ink cartridges are in the correct slots.
Remove and install the ink cartridges into their correct positions if necessary. - Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

Description
More than one ink tank of the same colour is installed. The lamp on the ink tank will flash.

Description:
The ink cartridge is not recognised.
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Ensure a Canon ink cartridge is inserted and replace any non Canon cartridges if necessary.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1683 - Orange light blinking 13 times
Description:
The remaining ink amount is unknown.
Resolution:
- An ink cartridge that was once empty is installed in the printer.
- Replace the applicable ink cartridge with a new one.
NOTE: Printing with a once empty ink tank can damage the printer. - If ink cartridge has been replaced, press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

1684/E14 - Orange light blinking 14 times
Description:
Ink cartridge is not supported (an ink tank that is sold in a different region from where the printer was purchased).
Resolution:
- Lift the printer cover up.
- Locate cartridge with no red light and replace with supported cartridge.
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to continue printing.

Description
The ink may have run out.
Resolution
- Replace the empty ink cartridges.
Canon recommends using new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities.

NOTE - Since the information contained in the fax may be lost if it is printed in this condition, the received fax will not be printed and will be stored in the machine's memory until the ink cartridge is replaced. You must manually print out faxes that were stored in the memory. You can change the setting so that the received fax is forcibly printed out instead of being stored in the memory, but all or part of the fax information may not be printed because of the ink out condition.

Description
The FINE cartridge is not installed properly.
Resolution
- Retract the output tray extension and the paper output tray, open the cover, and then remove the FINE cartridges.
- Then re-install the FINE cartridges, push the FINE cartridge until it clicks into place.
- Close the cover.

Description
The ink has run out.
Resolution
- Replace the ink cartridge and close the paper output cover.

Description:
The waste ink absorber is almost full.
Definition:
The Ink absorber absorbs the ink used when cleaning is executed. In order to maintain the best printing, the ink used when cleaning is absorbed into the ink absorber inside the printer.
Resolution:
- Resolving this error requires the assistance of a Canon authorised service facility. Please use the link at the top of the page to locate your nearest facility.

Description
The ink absorber is almost full.
Resolution
- Press the machine's [OK] button to continue printing. Then please contact your nearest.

Description
The protective material for the FINE cartridge holder or tape may remain attached to the holder.
Resolution
- Open the paper output cover, and confirm if there is any protective material or tape still attached to the FINE cartridge holder.
- Remove any protective material or tape, and then close the paper output cover.

1830 *1 - Orange light blinking 6 times
Description:
A print time-out has occurred in the CD/DVD print operation.
Resolution:
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to clear the error and to retry the print process.
- Check that the CD/DVD is inserted correctly in the CD/DVD tray.

Description:
The connected digital camera or digital video camera does not support Camera Direct Printing.
Resolution:
- Disconnect the device from the printer by removing the cable from the printer and the device.

2002 - Orange light blinking 19 times
Description:
Non-supported hub.
Resolution:
- Disconnect the device by removing the USB connector from the printer and the device.

Description
Paper larger than the size setup in the print settings is loaded into the machine.
Resolution
- Check the size of the loaded paper, and then press the machine's [OK] button.
- The screen to select a processing method is displayed on the LCD.
- Reload paper as necessary, use the [] buttons to select a processing method, and then press the [OK] button.
NOTE- When 'Print with fed paper' is selected, the machine does not detect the paper width for the current print job. To disable the machine from detecting the paper width for all subsequent print jobs, set the machine not to detect the paper width by using the operation panel, the printer driver, or Remote UI.

Description
Paper smaller than the size setup in the print settings is loaded into the machine.
Resolution
- Check the size of the loaded paper, and then press the machine's [OK] button.

Description
The machine has detected that the paper has been fed aligned to one side.
Resolution
- Load the paper into the centre of the front tray and then slide the paper guides to align with the both edges of the paper stack.
- Press the machine's [OK] button to dismiss the error.

Description
The machine cannot detect the paper size.
Resolution
- Press the machine's [Stop] button to dismiss the error and then try to print again.
- If this error still occurs even after printing again, set the machine not to detect the paper width by using the operation panel, the printer driver, or Remote UI.
Note- Depending on the type of paper, the machine may not detect the paper width. Additionally, if the paper output cover is opened while printing is in progress, the machine may not detect the paper width.

2500 - Orange light blinking 11 times
Description:
Automatic print head alignment failed.
Resolution:
- Press the [Resume/Cancel] button on the device to clear the error.

Description
This error occurred due to one of the following reasons -
- An error occurred while copying.
- The document is still in the ADF.
- An error occurred while scanning and the document is still in the ADF.
Resolution
- When copying, press the [OK] button to dismiss the error, and try to copy again.
- If the document is still in the ADF, press the [OK] button to feed out the document.
- When scanning, press the [Stop] button to cancel, and then try scanning again.

Description
The document feeder cover is open.
Resolution
- Close the document feeder cover and then press the [OK] button.

Description
The document is jammed in the ADF.
Resolution
NOTE - The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when the received fax or the unsent faxes are stored in the machine's memory. Make sure the machine completed sending or receiving all faxes before disconnecting the power cord. If you unplug the power cord, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.
- If you press the [Stop] button during scanning the document will stay where it is in the ADF and a message will appear on the LCD. Press the [OK] button and the machine will feed the document out of the ADF.
- If the original gets jammed in the ADF press the [Stop] button to cancel printing.
- Turn off the machine.
- Remove any pages other than the jammed page from the ADF, and then open the document feeder cover.
- Pull out the jammed document from the ADF.
- Close the document feeder cover and then turn on the machine.
- If the document is jammed in the document output slot, close the document tray as shown in the figure below and pull out the document.
Note - The document may not feed properly depending on the media type, or your environment, such as when the temperature and humidity are either too high or too low. In this case, reduce the number of document pages to approximately half of the loading capacity. If the document still jams, use the platen glass instead.
When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Description
No document in the ADF.
Resolution
- Press the [OK] button to resolve the error and then try again after loading the documents.

Description
The document is too long or is jammed in the ADF.
Resolution
- Press the [OK] button to dismiss the error. Then make sure that the document you are loading meets the machine's requirements before redoing the operation.
- If the document is jammed in ADF, press the [Stop] button to cancel printing.
- Turn off the machine.
- If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any pages other than the jammed page from the ADF, and then open the document feeder cover.
- Pull out the jammed document from the ADF.
- Close the document feeder cover, and turn on the machine.
- If the document is jammed in the document output slot, close the document tray as shown in the figure below and pull out the document.
NOTE - The document may not feed properly depending on the media type, or your environment, such as when the temperature and humidity are either too high or too low. In this case, reduce the number of document pages to approximately half of the loading capacity. If the document still jams, use the platen glass instead.
When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

The size of the document is not suitable for duplex scanning.
Resolution
- Press the [OK] button to dismiss the error.

- Make sure the type and size of the loaded paper is suitable for Automatic Print Head Alignment. For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.
- Print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.

- Turn off the printer
- Disconnect the power cable
- Open the printer cover
- Check for any orange protective tape or white polystyrene and remove if necessary
- Check that there are no foreign objects in the printer (such as a paper clip) and remove if necessary

- Reconnect and turn on

Description:
U052 is a service error that can occur due to an internal communication failure between the printer and the print head.
Resolution:
In most instances, a U052 error will require a repair at a Canon authorised repair centre, however prior to sending your printer for repair please follow the steps below to try and resolve this error -
- Turn off the printer
- Disconnect the power cable
- Wait for a minute
- Reconnect the power cable and turn back on
If the error is still showing and your printer uses one of the ink cartridges listed in the table below you can try reinstalling it. If this does not clear the error or your product does not use one of these ink cartridges then it is necessary to deliver or send the printer to an authorised repair centre.
